Summer Inspiration for The Home and Stable

Cook Books, New Spices, Awesome Oil & Vinegars - We are ready!

Not too long ago, Karson and I joined Chef Veera on Zoom for one of her cooking classes. We learned some pretty cool techniques to make crostini and cocktails fun and delicious. We literally cooked, laughed and ate nonstop for over an hour.

We realized that joy really should be involved in cooking especially when sharing with friends and loved ones.  The simple tips we learned will be shared with all of you as we go forward. Eating together, learning together...you get the idea.

So, we are officially done with eating the same meals over and over.  Renee's husband is probably pretty excited about it but he would never complain. He's the guy who could eat meatloaf and bar-b-que 8 days a week. We'll see.

With the help of Chef Veera and some books from Renee's sister Sherry,  we are ready to drink  "shrubs", build amazing horseshow charcuterie boards and yes, learn to use our outdoor gas grills.

In upcoming posts, we will explore why apple cider vinegar has been replaced by Limoncello or Cranberry vinegar. Why drink something healthy but tastes awful when you can freshen up a perfectly lovely glass of water, club soda or Prosecco with a shrub? I know it sounds odd but these new drinking vinegars are amazing.

Charcuterie Boards are big here in Tampa. Whether you buy one, make one or simply admire them on Pinterest, everyone is getting in the spirit. The Red Hound in Atlanta sells "Beautiful Boards". Colorful and visually delicious, this book has some truly amazing works of edible art. I can't wait to try some out and share them with you.

Lastly, we will be exploring healthy options to take to the barn or make at a horseshow.  Learning to add quick and healthy fuel to our day with a variety of nuts, breads, homemade dips and sauces will be fun. The best part is that we can tailor it to our own quirky tastes. Think Elvis and his peanut butter and banana sandwich. A little different but wonderful to him. Also, we've been expanding our bowls with not only nuts but seeds as well. There is a lot to dig into with types, toasting requirements and creating balanced bowls.

So, there you have it. We are ready for summer of 2021 and look forward to spending time with our horses, trying new food boards, dips, and delicious cocktails... Cheers!

No, this isn't your basic Jack and The Beanstalk story although it could easily become a new Grimm's Fairy Tale. Several years ago, I attempted to extract “the bean” from my horse’s sheath. I was familiar with using various products to soften and loosen smegma but had never attempted to find the elusive bean. I wasn’t even quite sure where or what it was!

It's like a Chai Tea latte...for my horse! Creamy, smooth, smells delicious and plus it leaves your horse super shiny.
